Alicia (dat gal can sang) Keys

If you know me then you are WELL aware that I am a die hard Alicia Keys FAN. It was my absolute intention to buy this CD and the DVD the day that it came out...but my pockets said that the road to hell was paved with "good intent". Needless to say that I didn't get it that day...but TRUST AND BELIEVE that I made a point to get it. And if I had known (I don't know why I thought anything else) that it was going to be as amazing as it is, I would have begged borrowed and stole to get it.

My favorite song on the CD is one of the new songs called "Every little bit hurts". But the way she sang "If I was your woman"....OH MY GAWD!!!!! Oh, and I should also mention that she has a song with Common and Mos Def....Just the fact that I said Common, Alicia Keys and Mos Def are on the same track should be enough to make you get up NOW and go get the CD.

I didn't get a chance to see the performance on MTV...but will be buying the DVD. Cause I'm sure the performance with Mos Def, Common and Alicia is just that more amazing to see than it is to hear. I'm sure there are laws that prohibit me from playing this CD as much as I already have....but OH WELL....ARREST ME, cause I'm gonna JAM!!!

Ok, I know this story is old...I've been meaning to comment on it but I've been busy. It seems that our former Secretary of Education, William Bennett made a comment (on air mind you) that to me proved just how uneducated he is. Here's the conversation between him and a caller.


From the September 28 broadcast of Salem Radio Network's Bill Bennett's Morning in America:

CALLER: I noticed the national media, you know, they talk a lot about the loss of revenue, or the inability of the government to fund Social Security, and I was curious, and I've read articles in recent months here, that the abortions that have happened since Roe v. Wade, the lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30-something years, could fund Social Security as we know it today. And the media just doesn't -- never touches this at all.

BENNETT: Assuming they're all productive citizens?

CALLER: Assuming that they are. Even if only a portion of them were, it would be an enormous amount of revenue.

BENNETT: Maybe, maybe, but we don't know what the costs would be, too. I think as -- abortion disproportionately occur among single women? No.

CALLER: I don't know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.

BENNETT: All right, well, I mean, I just don't know. I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this, because you don't know. I mean, it cuts both -- you know, one of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is that the declining crime rate, you know, they deal with this hypothesis, that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well --

CALLER: Well, I don't think that statistic is accurate.

BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either, I don't think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.

Ok, now it's my turn...First of all it just blows my mind that this man was at any time our Secretary of Education (education being the key word), but then again our current president was a "C" student.

"Crime" is too broad of a term to equate with just black people, yes black people do commit crime but some of the most heinous crimes committed in this country were committed by races other than blacks...case and point: Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam, Eddie Gein aka the original Psycho, Charles Manson, Theodore Kaczynski aka The Unibomber, and Jeffery Dahmer...just to name a few. And let's not forget Columbine and Sept. 11th...Hey Mr. Bennett, I think you're tryin to abort the wrong people.

I was listening to the radio and two personalities were saying that if this comment had been made by Dave Chapelle then black people would have been on the floor laughing, and you know what...they're right. But the difference is (as one of them said) Dave Chapelle is a comedian who gets paid to make fun of people, a lot of times its black people...sometimes it's white people. But we as black people know that when Dave Chapelle (a black man) says it, he's making fun of the stereo-types that white people have about black people. When a politician says it....it's because he really feels that way.

I do commend this idiot for one thing though....at least he said it! We all know Bush and the majority of Politicians think the same thing...but they all deny their hatred and fear of black people. Now if we could just get Bush to do the same we wouldn't need Kanye West to go on anymore telethons and embarrass Austin Powers with un-scripted comments.

If you haven't heard by now...Beanie Sigel is in the news again. This time not for anything that he did (as far as we know), this time it's family related. If you don't know the story....here it is:

PHILADELPHIA -- Wallace Moody, a man allegedly kidnapped who had ties to a rap star's stepfather, has been released by his captors and is now back home.
Moody is a friend of rapper Beanie Sigel's stepfather, Sam Derry, who found shot to death with his body set on fire about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Moody told police he was released late last night. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and spoke with police before he was cleared to go back home.

Police had no comment about Moody's abduction, his release and the search for suspects.
On Wednesday, police said Moody was taken as he was leaving his North Third Street home.
Police said that just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, two dark-colored sedans pulled up to Moody's house. As Moody was walking out of his home, three men, who were wearing gray hooded shirts, approached Moody at gunpoint, forced him into one of the sedans and headed toward Cheltenham Avenue.

Late Wednesday afternoon, police towed away Moody's car and took a smashed cell phone in for evidence.

Derry's family members told NBC 10 News that they are offended by reports that his death had anything to do with Sigel's recent acquittal on attempted homicide charges.
Wednesday morning, police impounded a car found on the 1200 block of Sydney Street that is believed to be owned by Derry. It was not immediately known if Derry had driven the car just prior to his death. Investigators believe that Derry was killed somewhere else and then dumped in the Forrest Avenue alley.

Sigel remained inside his mother's home Wednesday, refusing to talk about the brutal killing of his 46-year-old stepfather.

"I can say Bennie, as well as the entire family, is devastated. There is hope whoever committed this crime is brought to justice," said Sigel's attorney, Fortunato Perri Jr.

Perri, who represented the rapper during last month's retrial on attempted homicide charges, said that he has heard speculation that Derry's killing could be some sort of retaliation against his client, but he doesn't think those rumors are true.

"There is nothing I'm aware of that Bennie has done or been through that would link him to this tragic situation," Perri said.

Police are continuing to look for a white van or sport utility vehicle that witnesses reported seeing near the scene at 8100 Forrest Ave., where Derry's body was dumped and set on fire.
A witness on Tuesday told NBC 10 News that she saw several men dump Derry's body in a secluded driveway.

"I (saw) a van drive up. I saw two people dragging something, three people just dragging something into the trash," said Denise Calhoun.

"I heard a whoosh, a big whoosh and then all of a sudden it was this fire. I said, 'Oh, they're putting the trash on fire back here.' But I said, 'Oh, my goodness, that's no trash, that's a body,'" Calhoun said. Calhoun said she saw a leg or an arm and called 911.

The body was so badly burned that authorities, at first, were not even sure of the victim's race.
In late September, Sigel (right)was acquitted on charges he shot and nearly killed a man two years ago on a crowded Philadelphia street.

That trial began only a few weeks after his release from federal prison on a federal weapons charge that stemmed from a 2002 traffic stop in Philadelphia. He faces yet another city trial for allegedly breaking a man's eye socket during a January 2003 argument.

The 31-year-old rapper, born Dwight Grant, has a long arrest record that dates to his youth in south Philadelphia. His three albums -- "The Truth" in 2000, "The Reason" in 2001 and "The B. Coming" -- each hit the top five on the Billboard album chart. Many of Sigel's songs depict guns, drugs and violence.

If you live in Phila or the surrounding areas, you've already heard the story and most likely all the hype surrounding Beanie Sigel. I hear people saying "You know it's bout to be a war up in philly now!" or "You know Beanie gonna get back at dem niggaz!" Now I'm not to say whether he is or isn't, cause I honestly don't care. But I personally think Beanie has enough legal problems right now...but then again, more court cases=more record sales. Which is why I'm positively sure that there will be a "Based on a true story" movie coming out in which the whole situation is explained. He can call this one "STATE PROPERTY: INDITED"
